Almaty. Republic Square.

2006-12-15| Askar Isabekov

There are much more White-winged Grosbeaks on New Square. Today I have seen its once and again. They have fed thuja's nuts in the main. Mixed flocks of Chaffinches, Bramblings and Sickins also have fed near thujas. Chaffinches and Bramblings have fed under the tree but Siskins on the tree. On the thawed places Blackbirds and Great Tits have fed. Siskins also have fed on the birches in company with Red-fronted Serins. So all have fed. Also I have found Barred Warbler but one only. The bird have tried separate white berry from the ice. When Warbler has seen me it has ceased to move. I have carefully moved to it. Step by step I have closed but bird has taken no notice of me. I have could to touch Warbler. Then bird has disappeared in bushes. I thought that need to capture Warbler and help to winter. But in evening Barred Warbler have run alive in the bushes. Also there were Blackbird and White-winged Grosbeak. I have touched berries. Berries were pappy not frozen. Hope Warblers will not need help. Also on evening I have seen large falcon flying with escort of four crows. They have flied so quickly then I haven't made photos.

Aktau, Mangystau region

A rare passage species in Kazakhstan. The most recent photographic record in the country was made on 21 April 2022 in the Suzak District of Turkestan Region (Martin Grienenberger; see the website gallery). In Mangystau Region, only two records supported by photographic evidence are known from recent decades of the 21st century: 20–24 May 2009 in the Kenderli area (Neve et al., 2010) and the present observation.
