Almaty. Republic Square.

2012-12-27 | Askar Isabekov

Before the dawn I came to the city administration; Peregrine Falcon was perching in the niche. At around 8:00 am the projectors illuminating the building turned off; at the same time the Rooks with Crows began to fly. Peregrine woke up but did not fly from the niche. I made the control shot for the record. At 8.15 the light was still no, I was very cold and went to the work, Peregrine was still in the niche. [...... read more ]

Almaty. Respublic squere.

2012-12-26 | Gennadiy Dyakin

[...... read more ]

2012-12-26 | Askar Isabekov

At 9 am the morning was light and snowy. Peregrine Falcon was in the niche. Perhaps it not leave the niche when the snowfall. It means that you can just wait until the end of snowfall and take photos with better light. [...... read more ]

Рыжехвостые жуланы в Оренбуржье...

2012-12-24 | Leonid Korshikov

[...... read more ]

Botanic garden. Almaty

2012-12-20 | Vassiliy Fedorenko

In the botanical garden birds not much too. In the main it black thrushes, most of which are sitting on hawthorn. Among them, only one Black-throated Thrush. Next in the park Black-throated Thrush more, but in general is still not much, only saw about a dozen. However, they are very shy (unlike last year). White-winged Grosbeaks as little eat barberry by one and the same are not allowed. On the way back, I met one robin in the dark bush and three Goldcrest under the pine. But Goldcrest quickly rode high in the crowns of the pines. At the exit near Tui freezing only one Brambling. [...... read more ]

Almaty.

2012-12-19 | Askar Isabekov

Yesterday night at around 10 pm I went to the Republic Square to look at Peregrine, just to check if it there or not. Falcon was in the niche where it stayed to night last year. Also today and yesterday, past my window the Eastern Buzzard flew by with the escort of dozen Crows. [...... read more ]

Kimasar gorge. Ile-Alatau National Park.

2012-12-16 | Askar Isabekov

Family tour to the mountains. Day was sunny in the morning, but snowy in afternoon. In the spruce I heard and watched Three-toed Woodpecker but didn’t make good photos because I careless came to the spruce. But it was impossible to do it otherwise because snow was knee-deep and the slope was arduous. Woodpecker flew out but I saw that it scraped the bark from the lower branches of the spruce. Also I watched about 20-25 White-winged Grosbeaks and 4-6 Red-rumped Rosefinches foraged in the barberry thickets, on burr, and on rowan-trees. On the mouth of the gorge I saw the large flock (about 150 birds) of the Red-fronted Serins. Other birds: 3 Carrion Crows, 1 Hooded Crow, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Mistle Thrush. [...... read more ]

Almaty. Area of the central stadium.

2012-12-16 | Vassiliy Fedorenko

Couple days ago near the my home I saw pack of Red-fronted Serin (maybe it was a piggy). I decided today to look for the birch in the main stadium, where is the third year in the winter flock Red-fronted Serin and Eurasian Siskin. Indeed, the finches already there. On the fertile birch hung about 10 Red-fronted Serin. Only one was adult. Birds allowed to go straight under the tree, and then went down to do the lower branches. And in the late afternoon, when the snow began to fall, the first time I saw under my window Tree Sparrows, which together with House Sparrows ate the bread. Kimasar gorge. Ile Alatau mountains.

2012-12-08 | Askar Isabekov

Sunny and warm day. The birds were not a lot. We were surprised by Waxwings which were observed in spruce forests at altitudes up to an 2400 m, and more than likely they flew to the upper border of spruce forest. We saw four pairs of Black Vultures flying west. I guess that not all of them were the same birds. Red-fronted Serins were feeding in birch grove. Probably now they have enough food in the mountains, they will come down to the city some later. [...... read more ]

Aktau, Mangystau region

A rare passage species in Kazakhstan. The most recent photographic record in the country was made on 21 April 2022 in the Suzak District of Turkestan Region (Martin Grienenberger; see the website gallery). In Mangystau Region, only two records supported by photographic evidence are known from recent decades of the 21st century: 20–24 May 2009 in the Kenderli area (Neve et al., 2010) and the present observation.

The first photo recording of a Northern Bullfinch in Almaty on the website is a rare sighting for a region where they were previously observed during wintering in the mid-20th century and have now become only occasionally encountered.
