Yesterday trip to Kimasar gorge was so ineffectual that I didn’t write the post to blog. There were no birds, I tried to find Crossbills but unsuccessfully. I guessed that birds ate all they can to eat and flew down to the city. May be I am right. Today I noticed the flock of about 20-25 Crossbills perching on birch-tree in Square of Journalists near Ramstor in Samal. When I came back with camera birds are not in same place on birch-tree. But flock in one moment appeared and landed on oak. Birds were moving from oak to pine-trees and feeding the seeds from cones. Crossbills are not shy and I approached to them to the short distance.

Аскар, спасибо за наводку! Сегодня в обеденный перерыв прогулялся их там пофотографировал. Правда таких ярко-красных не попалось, и свет был не очень, и времени было очень мало, но все-равно приличные кадры есть, как разберу выложу.

Да не за что. У Василия получились очень хорошие фотографии, и красные тоже есть.

Ну Василий там похоже пол-дня проторчал и солнышко успел поймать. А я подошел уже смурно было и по времени был ограничен пол-часами. Тем не менее я удовлетворен.

Василий говорит, что чуть позже в горах шишки поспеют и можно будет клестов в горных сосняках половить.

Ну да, хотелось бы на нашей родной елке Шренка, а не на американских соснах.

Да, я к 12 подошёл, поэтому солнце ещё застал. А шишки я имел ввиду именно сосновые. Посмотрел старые снимки, в конце февраля я их в сосняке на Кок-Жайляу снимал. А у ели Шренка семена созревают к августу, поэтому у нас клесты гнездятся летом, а не зимой.

The second record of a rare migratory species this season.

Great Snipe (Gallinago media)

A rare passage species in Kazakhstan. The most recent photographic record in the country was made on 21 April 2022 in the Suzak District of Turkestan Region (Martin Grienenberger; see the website gallery). In Mangystau Region, only two records supported by photographic evidence are known from recent decades of the 21st century: 20–24 May 2009 in the Kenderli area (Neve et al., 2010) and the present observation.

Northern Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes)

A new species for the Teniz-Korgalzhinsky region. The first photographic confirmation on the website for the Kazakh Uplands. Recorded on March 28 and 30 in different parts of the village.

Northern Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)

The first photo recording of a Northern Bullfinch in Almaty on the website is a rare sighting for a region where they were previously observed during wintering in the mid-20th century and have now become only occasionally encountered.
