Who is the best Birds Expert?

2018-03-12| Askar Isabekov

Dear friends, I am pleasure to report about the competition of Best Birds Expert.

Background. Most of birdwatchers in countries of former Soviet Union don't know the features of birds, and identify them mostly by asking help of other birders. But "expert" birders who can identify birds usually do it not using features but using own experience. I called this mode as “guessing”, it's not identification. In difficult cases the mode of voting is only one to “identify” the bird.

Aims. The basic aim is learning of beginners for quickly, rightly and truly mode of identification of birds. The second aim to pay attention to the folders of unidentified birds.

Competition. Any birdwatcher can participate in competition. You need just comment the photos of unidentified birds. The comments under wrongly identified birds containing the usefull information also will be taken into account. The one-word or not explained comments are not considered. There will be two competition categories: 1. Professional, 2. Amateur. Please, specify your category when you participate.

Sites. The comments published in following sites “Birds of Kazakhstan”, “Birds of Siberia”, "Birds of European Russia", "Birds of Russian Far East", "Birds of Ukraine" are taken into account.

Competition jury: Anna Yasko, Oleg Belyalov, Igor Fefelov, Sergei Shursha, Askar Isabekov.

Due dates. From March 15, 2018 to March 15, 2019. Interim results will be report in 15th day of each month.

Rewards. «Collins Bird Guide», according to many birdwatchers, is the best of bird guide in the world, due to completeness, very comfortable interface and quality colour illustrations. Each of reward copy of «Collins Bird Guide» is signed by the author, Mr Lars Svensson. The best bird guide signing by author is the best reward to birds expert competition.

1. "Collins Bird Guide" signing by Mt Lars Svensson is the reward for the winners of the Birds Expert Competition.
